The administration would like more than $23 billion for the Military Intelligence Program alone
According to TASS, the White House, led by President Joe Biden, has requested a total of $85.5 billion from the US Congress for the US intelligence community for the 2022 fiscal year, which begins on October 1 this year. The Pentagon press office said on Tuesday that the administration wanted $23.3 billion for the Military Intelligence Program (MIP) alone.
“This amount ensures that the Secretary of Defense’s strategic priorities are translated into reality”, – the Defense Department said in a statement released. – “No other information regarding MIP funding or details of the program will be released to the public, as it remains classified for national security reasons.”
The Office of the Director of National Intelligence, Eurile Haynes, announced last Friday that it expects to raise $62.3 billion for all other intelligence agencies in the country, including the CIA, FBI intelligence divisions, Drug Enforcement Administration, Departments of Homeland Security, Treasury and Energy, as well as the State Department. They are all involved in the National Intelligence Programme (NIP).
According to the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, the total expenditure of the intelligence community was $85.8bn last year, $81.7bn in 2019, $80.1bn in 2010 and $63.5bn in 2007.
