President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said that if necessary Russia will be able to redeploy its troops to the territory of the republic within 24 hours, reports EurAsia Daily
The Belarusian leader noted that cooperation in the military-industrial complex was one of the subjects of the talks in Sochi with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Lukashenko stressed that the establishment of Russian military bases on the territory of Belarus was not discussed, as there is no need for it yet in the concept of “military security of the Union State.”
“There will be some wariness, we will see activation in NATO, up to and including military conflict, within twenty-four hours (we have bases, airfields and other things defined) Russian units and troops will be transferred to Belarus”, – Lukashenko said at a meeting on cooperation with Russia.
The President of Belarus stressed that the transfer of Russian troops will be carried out only in case of the aggravation of the military situation. Lukashenko instructed the relevant officials to hold consultations with their Russian counterparts and determine what kind of modern weapons Belarus needs.
“So that there will be no insinuations like that we are “surrendering” our sovereignty and independence. We have not even talked about it. We have not talked about it at all. We have been resolving specific issues which will help bring us closer to the Russian Federation. Let me remind you – we need only one thing: equal conditions for economic entities, individuals”, – summed up Lukashenko.
