According to the Left Bank, Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova have sent a joint letter to the European Commission, asking for a mechanism to transfer the coronavirus vaccine to the Eastern Partnership countries, along the same lines as has recently been applied to the Western Balkan countries.
“This approach, combined with other efforts by partner countries, would help avoid the problems of vaccine shortages and ensure that the necessary quantities are available within a reasonable timeframe”, – the Ukrainian government said in a statement on its website.
The letter to EC President Ursula von der Leyen was signed by Ukrainian Prime Minister Denis Shmygal, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili and acting Moldovan Prime Minister Aureliu Cioco.
Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova are coordinating their efforts in the new “Associated Trio” partnership format. They believe that only a concerted effort will help rebalance the pace of vaccination in Member States and partner countries, which in turn will contribute to a speedy resolution of the COVID-19 pandemic epidemic crisis.
