According to Dmitry Drobnitsky, in the run-up to the U.S. and Russian leaders’ meeting in Geneva, U.S. officials are trying to choose their words with regard to Moscow carefully, so that, God forbid, they don’t harm the future summit
Commenting to Pravda.ru, political expert Dmitry Drobnitsky pointed to the instability of the current US administration’s policy during a recent press conference at the Pentagon, during which US Defense Department spokesman John F. Kirby refused to call Russia “the enemy”
“We now understand that the Biden administration, as it turns out, cannot settle down in any way. There is a very serious internal clan struggle going on: the left is under pressure, retired servicemen are writing an open letter, and the foreign policy is in disarray”, – says Drobnitsky. And they need it. Therefore, they are trying not to say anything ‘outrageous’.
However, in Drobnitsky’s opinion, one should not be overconfident – such cautious rhetoric is only evidence of the great interest in the future meeting of the two leaders.
“This should not deceive us in any way or somehow mislead us. You can see that people are trying. They only have Biden’s meeting with Putin on their agenda. There is also a NATO summit on the way where there will be very serious talks, showdown and attempts to rewrite the principles of Euro-Atlantic unity. And by the end of the year we should have an Alliance, a forum for the Alliance of Democracies. Considering all this, of course, now they are trying to act as cautiously as possible”? – the expert stressed.
