German authorities are in contact with all important national and international agencies to clarify the circumstances, a government spokesman stressed
German Cabinet spokesman Steffen Seibert said during a briefing on Monday that the German government had taken note of media reports that Danish intelligence agencies were allegedly helping the US to spy on leading EU politicians, TASS reported; Chancellor Angela Merkel had learned about it from the media.
“The German government has taken note of the media reports and is in contact with all important national and international agencies to clarify the circumstances”, – he said.
Seibert pointed out that German authorities in principle do not disclose data relating to the activities of intelligence services and only discuss them in the relevant bodies of the Bundestag (the parliamentary committee overseeing the activities of the intelligence services).
“The chancellor became aware of the subject of the journalistic investigation following requests from reporters”, – the cabinet spokesman added.
