Among the targets of the surveillance were:
- German Chancellor Angela Merkel
- Former foreign minister
- Frank Walter Steinmeier (current president of Germany)
- Peer Steinbrück, candidate for chancellor of the German Social Democratic Party
The Danish secret service helped the US to spy on leading politicians in Sweden, Norway, the Netherlands, France and Germany.
This information led to the resignation of the head of the Danish intelligence service Forsvarets Efterretningstjeneste (FE).
According to WikiLeaks, surveillance may have been carried out since the 1990s.
Danish authorities, on the other hand, say they were allegedly unaware of the surveillance until 2015.
