US Air Force Lieutenant General David A. Krumm said the U.S. Air Force conducted a record number of interceptions of Russian aircraft in the skies over Alaska in 2020, Air& Cosmos reported
According to David Crumm, Russian planes no longer test US pilots’ responsiveness, but wear them down psychologically by being in US airspace for long periods of time.
This upsurge in air activity, according to Krumm, is linked to the growing strength of the Russian armed forces in the Arctic and the restoration of some fifty Soviet military bases, which has given the Russians an increased presence in this coveted area.
