Russia’s proposal to resolve the situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border is acceptable to Yerevan
Acting Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan stated.
Armenian Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan earlier described the Russian proposal to resolve the situation as acceptable, stressing the priority of withdrawal of Azerbaijani Armed Forces units from Armenian territory.
Azerbaijani Prime Minister Ali Asadov said Saturday that Baku supported Moscow’s proposal to set up a trilateral commission to demarcate and delimit the Azerbaijani-Armenian border.
Pashinyan earlier suggested withdrawal of Armenian and Azerbaijani troops from the border and deployment of international observers there.
“For us, the proposals of our strategic partner, the Russian Federation, to resolve the situation on the border are acceptable, and Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan said so in an interview. We believe these proposals are acceptable, and we say concretely how to implement them in practice”.
According to him, the Armenian side also considers as acceptable the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs’ proposal to “mirror” the withdrawal of troops from the borderline and to launch delimitation and demarcation of borders under international aegis afterwards.
Earlier, the Azerbaijani defence ministry said six Armenian soldiers were detained while trying to cross the border. The Armenian Defense Ministry said that the six soldiers were captured “while carrying out engineering work in the protected area of an Armenian military unit in the border section of Gegharkunik region” on the border with Azerbaijan.
