EU offers US response to Russia’s ‘hostile actions’

EU member states have invited the US to issue a joint statement against Russia

According to RIA Novosti, the EU has sent the U.S. a draft joint statement for the summit, scheduled for June 15, which proposes to declare a strong response to Russia’s “pattern of negative behavior” and “hostile actions,” reports Bloomberg, citing the document.

The EU-US summit will take place in Brussels on 15 June, a day before Russian and United States presidents Vladimir Putin and Joe Biden meet in person in Geneva.

“We are united in our principled approach to Russia, and we will respond decisively to its repeated pattern of negative behaviour and hostile actions”, –  the agency quoted an excerpt from the document as saying.

According to Bloomberg, the European Union and the United States at the summit will oppose “Russia’s repression of civil society, the opposition and independent media” and declare closer economic cooperation.
