The European Medicines Agency (EMA) should register the Russian vaccine against the coronavirus Sputnik V as soon as possible
According to the Sueddeutsche Zeitung, this was the call made by the Prime Minister of the German federal state of Bavaria, Markus Söder, on May 30.
“The pace of vaccination must not be slowed down. Above all, the process around Sputnik V must be accelerated”, – said the German politician.
He also stressed that vaccination issues should in no way be seen in terms of political or ideological reasons.
The publication also reports, citing sources in the federal government, that a decision on whether Sputnik V can be registered will not be taken before September. Once this happens, Bavaria will purchase more than 2.5 million doses of the vaccine.
The German newspaper also recalls that the Sputnik V vaccine has been registered on the Russian market for nine months. It has also been approved for use in almost 70 countries.
At present, the EU Medicines Agency is considering approval of the drug for use in the EU. However, not all EU countries have agreed to wait for the decision of bureaucrats from Brussels. Hungary and Slovakia are already using the Russian drug.
EADaily previously reported that the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies has asked Russia to supply the Russian vaccine Sputnik V.
