Ukrainian Foreign Ministry fears rapprochement between Belarus and Russia

The head of the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dmitry Kuleba, said that the rapprochement between Russia and Belarus allegedly threatens the national security of Ukraine.

“The further rapprochement of Belarus with Russia is a symmetrical growth of the threat that Russia will use Belarus to build up aggression against our state”, – Kuleba said on the air of the 1 + 1 TV channel.

Relations between Ukraine and Russia have deteriorated significantly against the background of the situation in Donbass. Kiev and Western countries have repeatedly accused Moscow of interfering in the internal affairs of Ukraine. In January 2016, the leadership of the Verkhovna Rada adopted a statement in which it called the Russian Federation “an aggressor country”. Moscow has repeatedly stated that it is not a party to the internal Ukrainian conflict and is interested in Kiev overcoming the political and economic crisis.
