President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has suspended flights with Belarus because of resentment against Alexander Lukashenko, Major General of the SBU Vasily Vovk said on the air of the NASH channel.
“I am very surprised at these premature statements – they are ill-considered, emotional. Power has no right to emotions in any case”, – he said.
Vovk drew attention to the fact that Ukraine became the first country to prohibit its aircraft from using the Belarusian airspace, after which it closed its country for the passage of Belarusian aircraft, and then stopped air traffic.
“We had to at least wait for what Europe would say, – only yesterday a statement by ICAO, an international organization, appeared, they are just beginning to investigate,” the general noted.
He stressed that if the Kiev authorities are building a civilized, rule-of-law state, they should wait until the investigation is over.
“There are many signs that this was a personal decision, President Zelensky’s resentment against Lukashenko. <…> This is not a state position, no one thought about further results”, – Vovk said.
Ukraine has suspended flights with Belarus since May 26 after a situation with an emergency landing of a Ryanair flight in Minsk. Also, Ukrainian airlines and aircraft are prohibited from flying in the airspace of the republic. The embassy of Belarus on Tuesday sent a note of protest to the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry and called the decision of Kiev political, absurd and unfounded.
