The head of the board of NJSC Naftogaz, Yuriy Vitrenko, appealed to the Ukrainian authorities to prevent the lifting of US sanctions from the Russian gas pipeline Nord Stream-2.
Vitrenko noted that Washington is looking for compromises with Berlin, since Germany is an important NATO partner. In turn, Germany will try to complete the construction of Nord Stream-2 as soon as possible in order to be in time for the chancellor’s elections, which will take place in the fall of 2021.
“Given the high likelihood of new threats, Naftogaz appeals to government authorities, public figures and the expert community to immediately come up with a public initiative and call on strategic partners, as well as all interested parties, to prevent the lifting of US sanctions on the Nord Stream-2”, – said Vitrenko.
Nord Stream-2 envisages the construction of two directions of the pipeline with a total capacity of 55 billion cubic meters of gas per year from the coast of Russia to Germany through the Baltic Sea.
