German Maas says EU shows readiness for dialogue with Russia

In recent months, the European Union has clearly shown that it is ready for a dialogue with Russia, but a counter reaction is needed, German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas told reporters before the start of an informal meeting of EU foreign ministers in Lisbon.

“There are enough topics, conflicting topics that we need to talk about, like the EU, in recent months we have shown very clearly that we are ready for dialogue, but in Moscow this should also be so”, – the minister said, adding that the last steps of the Russian Federation in particular, the ban on three German NPOs “indicates that Russia currently does not seem to have much interest in dialogue with the EU”.

“We want further negotiations and dialogue, for this the summit between the presidents of Russia Vladimir Putin and US  President Joe Biden is also extremely important, there are important issues, disarmament issues and up to the questions of how we can integrate Russia into our efforts to fight with climate change”, added Maas.
