Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry names cause of tension on border with Armenia

Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov said on Thursday that attempts to create tension around the delimitation process on the Azerbaijani-Armenian border arise due to the internal political situation in Armenia itself.

On Thursday, the Armenian Defense Ministry said that the servicemen of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces surrounded and captured six Armenian soldiers who were carrying out engineering work in the protected territory of the military unit of the Armenian Armed Forces at the border section of the Gegharkunik region. The Azerbaijani Defense Ministry, in turn, announced the detention of six Armenian soldiers while trying to cross the border.

“The hysterical behavior of Armenia around the delimitation of the Azerbaijani-Armenian border is not clear. happened during the pre-election period, confirms this”, – the Azertaj state agency quoted Bayramov as saying.

In his words, “the political forces in Armenia are trying to use this situation to strike a blow at their opponents in the election campaign”.

“In general, we consider this tendency very harmful, we regard it as a blow to the implementation of the trilateral statement (on Karabakh – ed.) and stability in the region”, – he said.

Earlier, on May 12, the Armenian Defense Ministry reported that the Azerbaijani armed forces tried to carry out certain work “to clarify the borders” in one of the border areas of the Syunik region. At the same time, the department did not specify what specific work was carried out by the Azerbaijani military. The incident at the border was discussed by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and the actiong Foreign Minister of Armenia Ara Ayvazyan. During a telephone conversation, Pashinyan informed Russian President Vladimir Putin about his instructions to seek consultations from the CSTO in connection with the situation in the Syunik region.
