One person died and two were injured in an explosion at a petrochemical complex in southern Iran today, 26 May, the state-run IRNA news agency reported

The mayor of Assalouyeh city in Bushehr province, where the incident took place, said the explosion damaged the oxygen pipeline to two petrochemical facilities.

“A working group has now been formed to investigate the emergency technical incident, which will establish the causes of the accident. Once all the details of what happened are clarified, information will be made available to the public”, – Assaluye town governor Abdolnabi Yousefi told IRNA.

Last Saturday, May 22, three people were injured in an explosion at an oil refinery in Abadan in southwestern Iran.

In past years, Iran has witnessed a series of “mysterious” explosions and industrial accidents across the country, some of which have occurred at the country’s nuclear facilities, Al-Arabiya TV noted on Wednesday.

At least seven ships were damaged in fires at Bushehr port in southern Iran on 15 July 2020, EADaily reported.

On the night of 7 July, a powerful explosion rocked a few kilometres south of Tehran. Iranian media reported an explosion and fire at the Sepahan Boresh factory in Baqershahr. At least two workers were killed and three injured. The factory and the nearby Saipa Press building sustained extensive damage.

On 30 June, an explosion at a medical clinic north of Tehran killed 19 people.

Two days later, on July 2, authorities reported an incident at a uranium enrichment plant in Natanz, Isfahan Province, some 250 km south of Tehran. The incident came six days after an explosion near Iran’s Parchin military complex.

Two days later, on July 4, a transformer explosion set fire to a power plant in the southwestern city of Ahvaz, the administrative centre of Khuzestan province. Later that day, according to Iranian state media reports, dozens of workers at a petrochemical centre in the same province were taken to hospital after a chlorine gas leak.

On 11 April there was an explosion at the Natanz nuclear facility. Iran accused Israel of involvement in the incident and vowed revenge on the “Zionist regime”. Tehran claims the centrifuge plant was an act of “nuclear terrorism”.
