Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said the Kremlin does not expect a global reset in bilateral relations between Russia and the United States after the meeting between the two countries’ presidents Vladimir Putin and Joe Biden
“One can hardly expect to reach an understanding on issues of deep disagreement during a single, first meeting. But at the same time, it would also be wrong to downplay the significance of this meeting”, – Peskov told reporters.
Peskov said that Moscow was not expecting the leaders’ meeting to reset relations between Russia and the United States. According to him, “the inertia of the negative potential, which, unfortunately, has gathered in the bilateral relations” of Russia and the US also plays a role.
“It is important that the presidents will have an opportunity to exchange views and compare their positions on those issues that are of interest to the two countries. And also, very importantly, on issues of interest to the whole world”, – he concluded.
Earlier, it became known that Russian President Vladimir Putin and his American counterpart Joe Biden would meet on 16 June in Geneva. The sides will discuss the state and prospects of further development of Russian-American relations, strategic stability issues, as well as topical issues on the international agenda.
