Germany confirms that it will not authorize arms supplies to Ukraine

Cabinet of Ministers spokesman Steffen Seibert said that the country supports a political solution to the crisis in Ukraine on the basis of the Minsk agreements

The current German government is pursuing a restrictive policy of arms exports and is not authorising such supplies to Ukraine. German Cabinet spokesman Steffen Seibert said this in Berlin on Wednesday.

“In the context of Ukraine, we do not issue permits for arms deliveries”, –  he said. –  “I can speak for the current government – this will not change in the current legislative period”, –  Seibert added.

Seibert thus commented on Greens co-chairman Robert Habek, who spoke in favour of supplying Kiev with “defensive weapons for self-defence”. Habek was then criticized by representatives of other political forces in Germany.

A cabinet spokesman added that Germany was in favour of a political solution to the crisis in Ukraine on the basis of the Minsk agreements. According to him, Berlin provides diplomatic, economic and political support to Kiev.
