AirBaltic estimates costs from refusal to fly over Belarus at €200,000 per month

The company decided not to fly over Belarus after the incident with emergency landing of Ryanair aircraft in Minsk on May 23

Additional costs of the Latvian national airline AirBaltic through the decision not to use the airspace of Belarus will amount to about €200 thousand per month.

“Additional cost of bypassing the airspace of Belarus is about €200 thousand per month”, –  noted the corporate

communications department of AirBaltic. – Given the different flight routes, these costs vary significantly for each flight. Moreover, AirBaltic would like to emphasize that, in accordance with the current schedule, only a small fraction of all flights operated by the company, would use the airspace of Belarus.

On the eve, Latvian Transport Minister Talis Linkaits announced that AirBaltic had decided not to fly over Belarus after the incident with the emergency landing of Ryanair aircraft in Minsk on May 23.
