Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan has accused the US of a strategy to demonise Muslims, causing Islamophobia to spread in the West
“Following the 9/11 attacks, the U.S. authorities embarked on a strategy of demonizing Muslims, thus spreading anti-Islamic sentiments in many societies where the virus of hatred against Islam was already present,” Erdogan said speaking at a symposium on manifestations of Islamophobia in Ankara.
He said Islamophobia is spreading like a cancer around the world, particularly in the West, and hatred of Islam has manifested itself in many tragedies, from Bosnia and Herzegovina to Myanmar.
Radical currents previously considered marginal are now influencing the political agenda, and this once again shows that the West is in a quagmire, sinking deeper and deeper into this dangerous trend, Erdogan said.
“Those who consider the genocide of the Jews during World War II a special exception are now rallying anti-Islamic ranks. In fact, they are not against Islam, but against their own future,” the Turkish president added.
