According to sources, the regional authorities have met three times with intermediaries who are negotiating the production and distribution of the drug.
One of these meetings took place on February 11 at the headquarters of the autonomy’s health department, which was attended by the head of the body, Enrique Ruiz Escudero, as well as the head of the IberAtlantic investment business group, Pedro Mourinho.
It is noted that the Madrid authorities have confirmed the holding of meetings with the aim of “studying the international market and using all the opportunities”.
According to preliminary information, during these meetings, the Madrid leadership listened to proposals related to the Russian drug, but no agreements were reached. At the same time, the region made it clear that any such operation depends on the permission of the European authorities.
The Madrid government is also interested in the possibility that the Russian drug will be manufactured in Spain.
He also clarifies that Madrid or any other region of the kingdom cannot purchase the vaccine on its own. This requires a permit from the Spanish Agency for the Control of Medicines and Medical Devices. Spanish authorities have previously said they will not use coronavirus vaccines that have not been approved by the European Medicines Agency.
As a reminder, more than 50 countries of the world have already approved the use of the Russian Sputnik V vaccine.
