EU proposes to ban flights over Belarus

Also close European airports for Belavia and ban land transit traffic through the country.

The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has received a request to suspend flights over Belarus after the Ryanair flight incident.

It is noted that France and its European partners are working on measures to stop flights over Belarus and prohibit access of the Belarusian national airline Belavia to the airports of the European Union.

“We are working on a package of measures that go beyond sanctions against individuals”, – said the Office of French President Emmanuel Macron in a statement.

Bloomberg also reports on the possibility of closing European airports for the Belarusian airline. Brussels may prohibit land transit traffic through Belarus to EU countries.

As reported, the Latvian airline AirBaltic has already refused to fly over the country. And the Hungarian low-cost airline Wizz Air redirected the Kiev-Tallinn flight bypassing.

A similar decision can be made by the Polish LOT.

After the landing of the liner, Roman Protasevich, the founder of the NEXTA Telegram channel, recognized as extremist in the republic, was detained.
