Today, representatives of the EU and the United States met with Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Dmitry Razumkov and Deputy Head of the President’s Office Andrei Smirnov. The US Embassy called the meeting constructive.
As reported by the Liga.News portal with reference to the US Embassy in Ukraine, the European Union and the United States once again called on the Ukrainian authorities to fulfill the recommendations of the Venice Commission to ensure a temporary but significant role for independent experts in the High Council of Justice, the High Qualifications Commission of Judges and the National Anti-Corruption Agency.
According to the report, today representatives of the EU and the United States met with Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Dmitry Razumkov and Deputy Head of the President’s Office Andrei Smirnov. The US Embassy called the meeting constructive. It was about reforming the above mentioned structures.
“Doing it right is extremely important for justice in Ukraine. We continue to call on the Ukrainian authorities to fulfill their obligations to follow the recommendations of the Venice Commission to ensure a temporary but significant role for independent experts in these bodies”, – the embassy said.
They believe that independent, read “Western” experts are the only way to protect the said bodies responsible for judicial reform and the fight against corruption from malicious influence.
