Austrian Foreign Minister says EU wants a dialogue with Russia

Moscow has not shown interest yet, says the head of the department Alexander Schallenberg.

According to TASS, on Saturday, Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg, on the eve of the EU summit on May 24, at which relations with Russia will be discussed, said that the European Union wants to establish a dialogue with Russia, but Moscow is not yet interested in this.

“Relations are now definitely tense and burdened. As they say, tango is danced together. The European Union wants dialogue. We want channels for dialogue, but this requires a response that the other side wants it too”, – the minister said on the air of O1 radio station.

According to the minister, Russia is currently not interested in this.

“Not now. There are corresponding signals that we have been receiving recently from Moscow”, – the minister added.

The European Union and Russia must cooperate in many areas, from climate to energy, Schallenberg said. He hopes that the tone in relations between the EU and Moscow will change.
