At a meeting of the Victory organizing committee, Putin said that Russia was not going the way of militarizing its economy, having a modern nuclear deterrent force.
The president recalled the emergence of a new type of strategic weapon, the intercontinental-range Avangard planning unit with hypersonic speed.
“We have appeared, no one else has yet, but we have hypersonic weapons, they are developing. We have new aviation systems that have no analogues in the world: combat surface and submarine ships, the most modern unmanned aerial vehicles”, – the Russian president said.
All the new types of armaments are produced by prudent spending on defence. This year around $42 billion has been allocated in terms of dollars, and the US has over $770 billion in defense spending. The politician believes that the problem is too much US money and that they do not know how to produce something that is effective and cheap.
“They have such a large amount of money allocated to the military-industrial complex budget that they just produce the way they produce. You see, when weapons are created, several factors are taken into account. It’s what the military wants. Usually the military wants a tank that “both swims and flies”. Then there is the opinion of engineers – they will tell you what is realistic to make. There is a manufacturer’s opinion on what is feasible to put into mass production. There is a financier who will say how much the necessary equipment costs. Good weapons are made when all these people discuss it together. And in the USA, they do not discuss it together. The result: there is a programme such as the F-35 fighter jet, which is very expensive and very poorly performing. They started serial production of these fighters when the design wasn’t even ready. It turns out that the Russian military-industrial complex works better”, – said Xavier Moreau.
