The National Interest: Russian Navy poses a real threat to US Navy

Chris Osborne, a journalist for the American magazine The National Interest, noted that the Russian Navy, although losing out in terms of number of ships, poses a real threat to the U.S. Navy

Osborne, who previously served as assistant secretary of defense, noted that the Russian Navy in the Black Sea continues to strengthen, with seven new warships and boats joining the Black Sea Fleet in 2021.

“If Russia is building new warships, what kind of ships are they? Most importantly, what kinds of weapons, radars and sensors can they use?”, – the expert writes.

The publication also cites the opinion of experts who believe that Russian submarines, boats and corvettes are the most dangerous for Bulgaria and Romania in the coastal areas of the Black Sea. According to the analysts, in case of a conflict, large aircraft carriers will not be able to operate in certain important areas, unlike the fast and maneuverable Russian boats and corvettes.

“Seemingly small and insignificant in comparison to the US navy, the Russian navy still poses a real threat”, –  Osborne concluded.
