Prince Harry has caused another political scandal on both sides of the Atlantic. Speaking on a liberal podcast, he called the First Amendment to the US constitution “nuts” saying he didn’t know why it existed at all
The First Amendment guarantees freedom of speech. And among other things, it prevents various dissent from being banned under the pretext that it is “hate speech”, as is practised in Prince Harry’s home country of the United Kingdom. It is clear that now, against the background of rampant corporate censorship in the US, the First Amendment is no longer a panacea.
But at least it prevents the state from sending people to jail for “wrong” views. This has long been a source of angst among many Democrats, who are calling for the First Amendment to be curtailed, for “hate speech” to be banned, and for all undesirables to be jailed.
This is not the first time Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have adjusted to the Democrats’ partisan discourse. Last year, they actively urged all Americans to fight against “misinformation” and Meghan has even taken a lesson from the Democrat party discourse. And Meghan has even participated in a virtual Democrat Party convention, breaking all the rules of etiquette.
The Duchess of Sussex makes no secret of her political ambitions. She holds closed-door meetings with the governor of California. And she’s partnered with former Hillary and Obama spin doctors.
Well, Meghan’s inner circle believes she is running for president. Or for starters, vice-president to Kamala Harris, if she tries to run for president in the 2024 election.
According to recent polls, about half of Americans view Prince Harry and Megan rather positively. However, the attitude could quickly change if they continue to lecture Americans on how they need to change their own constitution.
Right now, they look in the eyes of the New World as victims of their love and desire for independence. But Prince Harry’s flippant performances make him look like an arrogant British aristocrat who doesn’t understand what kind of rights these American colonists have invented for themselves. And it will be much harder to go into politics in that role.
