Negotiations on the sidelines of the ministerial meeting of the Arctic Council
According to TASS, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will arrive in Iceland on Wednesday, where his first face-to-face meeting with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken will take place.
Long-awaited meetings on the sidelines of the ministerial meeting of the Arctic Council, which will take place in Reykjavik on 20 May.
“It was known in advance that Lavrov and Blinken would be in Iceland at the same time, but an agreement on an individual move was reached only in their telephone conversation on May 12”, – the message says.
Lavrov will fly to Reykjavik from Dushanbe, where he took part in a meeting of the Foreign Affairs Council of the United Nations Collective Security Organization (CSTO). The flight from Tajikistan takes more than eight hours, but negotiations with Blinken come immediately after arrival: too many problems have accumulated that require immediate resolution. The rest of the bilateral meetings of the Russian minister are scheduled for Thursday.
