The UN Security Council has failed for the third time in the past week to agree on a joint statement calling for a halt to the fighting in Israel and the Gaza Strip over the objections of the United States, TASS reported
“The US opposed the proposed draft statement following a public meeting on Sunday”, – a source told the agency.
The draft statement was prepared by Tunisia, Norway and China. Sources told The Times of Israel that it criticised both sides of the conflict. Until today, the draft statement has already been considered twice by the UN Security Council in closed meetings.
UN Secretary-General’s spokesman Stephane Dujarric, in a briefing, reiterated “the need for a unified call from the Security Council that we think would have an impact on the situation”.
