The settlement of the Transnistrian conflict is an important goal for the United States.
The diplomat said this today, May 18, speaking to the students of the Faculty of International Relations of the Moldavian State University.
According to Hogan, Transnistria should be under the administrative control of the Moldovan authorities.
“We support the full reintegration of Transnistria into the Republic of Moldova. One of the factors that needs to be addressed is the consolidation of the approach in the Republic of Moldova, because there are many approaches on the right bank of the Dniester, but only one strategy should be formed”, – the diplomat said.
He added that a similar attempt was made about two years ago, when the current President of Moldova, Maia Sandu, was prime minister, and her colleagues in the government tried to form an approach on this issue that united all parliamentary parties.
“If, after the early parliamentary elections on July 11, a government is formed in Moldova, which will receive the support of the majority in parliament, this will give an impetus to the resolution of the conflict”, – concluded Derek Hogan.
