The President of Transnistria Vadim Krasnoselsky went to Moscow to negotiate a new batch of humanitarian aid with Sputnik V for compatriots living in the region. The head of state wrote about this today, on May 18, in his telegram channel, noting that there was a need to “discuss on the spot a number of issues on the further provision of the Russian-made Covid vaccine to Pridnestrovians”.
“There is a preliminary agreement on the supply of the drug for 10,000 vaccination courses. We are talking about the next tranche of humanitarian aid to compatriots living in Transnistria. In addition, the issue of purchasing a vaccine is on the agenda. It requires elaboration. A number of meetings are planned for the coming days”, – Krasnoselsky wrote.
Earlier, Transnistria had already received 31,000 double doses of Sputnik V from a party sent to Moldova. The vaccination campaign continues. In addition to the Russian drug, the vaccination is carried out by the Romanian AstraZeneca received from Chisinau.
“It is planned to purchase a vaccine, and different ones. In addition to the Russian Sputnik V, we will also purchase a Chinese drug. We are negotiating the purchase of 100,000 doses (for 50,000 vaccination courses). Pridnestrovians will be given a choice of which vaccine to protect themselves from coronavirus infection. I would like to emphasize that regardless of whether the vaccine was provided in the form of a humanitarian tranche or purchased at public expense, the citizens of Pridnestrovie are vaccinated free of charge”, – concluded Vadim Krasnoselsky.
We would like to remind that currently AstraZeneca and BionTech / Pfizer of European manufacturers, the Russian “Sputnik V”, as well as the Chinese vaccine Sinopharm / Beijing are authorized in Moldova. All of them can be supplied to the region.
Earlier, the Speaker of the Moldovan Parliament Zinaida Greceanii addressed a request for help in the fight against the pandemic to Russian President Vladimir Putin, and the leader of the Socialist Party, ex-President Igor Dodon, discussed this issue with the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Russian President Dmitry Kozak. Transnistrian President Vadim Krasnoselsky also said that he raised this issue at meetings in the Kremlin. After that, the Russian authorities made a decision in principle to send humanitarian cargo to Moldova, part of which was intended for residents of the Left Bank. The special board of the Ministry of Emergency Situations with “Sputnik V” landed in Chisinau on May 4.
As EADaily reported, Moldova and Ukraine signed an agreement on the mutual recognition of vaccination certificates against coronavirus on May 17 to facilitate mutual border crossing. This issue was agreed in Kiev by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration (MFAEI), acting Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova, Aureliu Chocoy, and his Ukrainian counterpart Dmitry Kuleba.
