Germany evaluates situation with completion of Nord Stream-2

The question of whether the construction of Nord Stream 2 will be completed may be decided in the next 12 months.

This was announced at the 25th conference “Potsdam Meetings” by the head of the Ministry of Economy and Energy of Germany Peter Altmeier, according to RIA Novosti.

According to him, the German government has so far successfully overcome “all possible escalations” and conflicts in this area.

The minister noted that the completion of the project depends primarily on the builders.

“I, of course, am not an engineer, and the problems that we have now are not a lack of permits, many permits have been obtained not only in Germany, but also in the Scandinavian countries, where the pipeline is being laid. There is still a small segment missing”, – he said.

At the same time, the minister stressed that, on the one hand, Nord Stream-2 is a private-commercial project, but on the other hand, it is very strongly associated with political challenges and problems.

“Therefore, it was very important for me that, in parallel with the development of Nord Stream 2, we also guarantee gas transit through Ukraine. Two years ago, in 2019, we adopted a common package, and I believe that we must also adhere to our obligations”, – he concluded.
