UK appoints special envoy for sexual minority rights

The head of the British government, Boris Johnson, has established the post of special representative for the LGBT community. The office of the prime minister informs about it.

Member of the House of Lords of the British Parliament Nick Herbert will be the special representative for the rights of sexual minorities. He will work to protect the rights of the LGBT community at home and abroad, and will also take part in the organization of the conference “It is safe to be yourself”, which is planned to be held in London next year.

“I have always been extremely proud to live in a country that is one of the most progressive and liberal in terms of LGBT rights. The ability to love whomever you want is a key British value and an essential element of any democracy”, – Johnson said.

Herbert’s candidacy for the post of special representative for the LGBT community was not chosen by chance: since 2009, Nick Herbert has been married to lawyer Jason Eads.
