In Russia, Facebook faces a fine of 28 million rubles

For refusing to remove prohibited information at the request of Roskomnadzor, the American company Facebook faces fines totaling 28 million rubles. This was announced today, May 17, in the 422nd World Court District, where the relevant materials were received.

“The court received four protocols drawn up under Art. 13.41. Administrative Code of the Russian Federation (violation of the procedure for restricting access to information, information resources, access to which is subject to restriction in accordance with the legislation of the Russian Federation). The company faces punishment in the form of a fine in the amount of 28 million rubles”, – the court said.

Three protocols were drawn up in accordance with Part 4 of Art. 13.41 (for refusing to remove calls for extremist activity, materials with pornographic images of minors or information on methods of making narcotic drugs). The fourth protocol was drawn up in accordance with Part 2 of Art. 13.41 (refusal of an information resource in the information and telecommunication network of the Internet to delete information if the obligation to delete such information, the Internet page is provided for by the legislation of the Russian Federation, except as provided for by honor 4 of Art. 13.41).

As EADaily reported, the world court of the Tagansky district of Moscow fined Telegram 5 million rubles under two Roskomnadzor protocols for refusing to delete information about calls for minors to take part in unauthorized actions in Moscow. In early April, the court fined Twitter 8.9 million rubles under three administrative protocols under the same article, and the TikTok service was fined 2.6 million rubles. The department also drew up similar protocols in relation to Facebook and Google.

In the event of a repeat offense, the fine will be increased to one tenth of the company’s total annual revenues.
