Germany allowed to continue laying pipes for Nord Stream-2

The Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH) has authorized the continuation of the construction of the Russian Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline in the exclusive economic zone of Germany.

“The decree on the immediate implementation of the second BSH permit dated January 14, 2021 is limited to laying work on a two-kilometer section of a pipe-laying vessel at anchor”, – the ministry’s press service said.

It is about laying pipes on a two-kilometer stretch in the exclusive economic zone of Germany. BSH emphasized that “aspects related to environmental protection do not impede this order”.

Earlier, the organizations NABU and DUH made an attempt to challenge the permission to continue construction of the Russian Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline in German waters due to the perceived risks to the environment.
