According to Heiko Maas, it is necessary to stop the violence and return to the negotiating table in order to restore confidence and continue to search for a solution based on the coexistence of two states.
According to TASS, in an interview with the German Sunday newspaper Bild am Sonntag, German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said that Israel has the right to defend itself against Hamas attacks and uses it.
“Israel is using its right to self-defense to defend itself against rocket terror from Hamas”, – Maas said, who said the violence should be stopped and returned to the negotiating table to restore confidence and continue to seek a two-state solution.
Mutual rocket attacks from Palestinian radical groups in the Gaza Strip and the Israeli army have continued since May 10. They followed riots at the Al-Aqsa mosque in East Jerusalem, which erupted over an Israeli court order to seize homes in Sheikh Jarrah from Arab families living there. According to the latest data, at least 10 people were killed on the Israeli side, and almost 140 on the Palestinian side, including nearly 40 children.
