Rebecca Ross, who is among ten US diplomats expelled from the country in response to Washington’s sanctions, wrote a farewell post on Twitter, calling her work in Moscow “an honor”.
“It was an honor for me to work in Moscow with so many Russian and international journalists who strive for the truth, offer ideas and information to the Russian people and the world, so that we can draw our own conclusions. Until next time, wonderful Russia! “, – she wrote in her account.
On April 15, the United States imposed new sanctions against Russia, affecting 32 individuals and associations. The sanctions also prohibit US financial institutions from buying Russian government bonds on IPOs after June 14. In addition, Washington has announced that it is expelling 10 Russian diplomatic missions from the country. Moscow has announced retaliatory measures that include mirroring the expulsion of diplomats, barring a number of US officials from entering, and inviting Ambassador John Sullivan to travel to Washington for consultations.
The Russian Foreign Ministry previously summoned US Charge d’Affaires in Russia, Bart Gorman, who was handed a note announcing the announcement of 10 American Embassy employees persona non grata that they must leave Russia by the end of the day on May 21.
