Number of casualties from Israeli shelling in Gaza rises to 139

More than 1,000 injured with varying degrees of severity

At least 139 people, including 39 minors, have been killed and more than 1,000 injured as a result of Israeli shelling in the Gaza Strip since Monday evening. The coastal enclave’s Health Ministry said on Saturday.

“139 people were killed, including 39 minors and 22 women, and over 1,000 more were wounded in varying degrees due to Israeli aggression”, –  Saut Al-Aqsa radio quoted the ministry as saying.

Since May 10 the Israeli army and Palestinian groups in the Gaza Strip have not stopped firing rockets at each other. This follows riots at the Al-Aqsa mosque in East Jerusalem in early May, triggered by an Israeli court order to seize homes in the Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood from Arab families living there.

At least nine residents of the Jewish State were reportedly killed in Israeli strikes by Palestinian radicals.
