Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare has reported 39 deaths following vaccination with a vaccine developed by the US-German Pfizer/BioNTech consortium, the Yomiuri newspaper reported
Among the dead were people aged between 20 and 90. The Ministry of Health of Japan stressed that the link between the Pfizer/BioNTech drug and the deaths has not been established by doctors. There have also been 107 cases of severe allergic reactions following vaccination. About 30% of those vaccinated experienced a temporary fever after a second dose of the vaccine.
Currently, only the Pfizer vaccine is used for vaccination against coronavirus in Japan. Only 1.2 million out of 4.8 million health workers (about 1% of the population) have completed immunization. The Japanese government intends to increase the vaccination rate to 1 million doses per day in order to have everyone vaccinated by the end of July this year.
