Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has condemned the rise of Islamophobia and discriminatory policies in the European Union, particularly in France
He said Islamophobia was as dangerous as the coronavirus and was spreading just as fast in European countries.
“There is no difference between the atmosphere of hatred against Jews before World War II and the atmosphere being created against Muslims today”, – Erdogan said.
He noted that followers of Islam are increasingly being “labelled as outsiders”, especially women wearing hijabs.
The politician stressed that EU leaders are not fighting Islamophobia, but are using it to their advantage. The situation has reached critical levels, and Muslims in Europe face serious threats to their security.
He also criticized the anti-extremism law that may be passed in France. In his view, the law violates human rights, restricts religious freedom and undermines democratic values.
“We expect the French government to repeal this bill as soon as possible”, – the president added.
