According to experts of British think tank Chatham House, it is unacceptable for Western countries to treat China as an enemy without taking into account the importance of Russia, Red Spring News Agency reports
“Recognise that in the current circumstances attempts to separate Russia and China would be futile and counterproductive. Building more effective alliances with multilateral or regional organisations would be the best way for Western governments and institutions to counter any regional influence that both countries are building up, either individually or together”, – the Chatham House report says.
The centre’s analysts urge Western policymakers not to get carried away with “conspiracy models” and not to attribute “a grand conspiracy nature to Sino-Russian relations”. In their view, the primary focus should be on the specific threats and challenges that Western countries can “confront”.
“Focusing on a supposed partnership between the two countries obscures more important hypothetical questions, such as how Russia could cause problems as a single actor”, – the British experts stressed.
