Lavrov and Blinken agree to hold meeting in Reykjavik

The head of the Russian foreign policy department and the US secretary of state also discussed by phone Washington’s proposal to organize a Russian-American summit.

According to TASS, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken discussed by phone the schedule of bilateral contacts, including Washington’s proposal to organize a Russian-American summit, and also agreed to meet separately at the ministerial session of the Arctic Council in Reykjavik.

“A schedule of other Russian-American contacts for the coming period was discussed, including Washington’s proposal to organize a Russian-American summit”, – the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

During the conversation, the topic of interaction between the two countries in the Arctic Council was touched upon, in particular in connection with the transfer of the chairmanship of this structure to Russia at the ministerial session of the council in Reykjavik on May 20.

“Lavrov and Blinken agreed to hold a separate meeting on the sidelines of this session to consider key issues of bilateral relations and the international agenda”.

The Russian Foreign Ministry noted that the parties “exchanged views on approaches to the nuclear problem of the Korean Peninsula, the renewal of the Joint Comprehensive Action Plan for the Iranian nuclear program, and consideration of tasks in the sphere of strategic stability”.
