Russia and Kazakhstan signed a new agreement on military cooperation

The new Treaty between the countries was concluded for 10 years with the possibility of automatic extension for subsequent ten-year periods. Russia and Kazakhstan signed an agreement on military cooperation

The updated Agreement on military cooperation between the two countries was signed in Nur-Sultan in October 2020 during a meeting of the defense ministers of Russia and Kazakhstan.

In accordance with the provisions of the Treaty, military cooperation will be carried out on a wide range of issues, including:
– military education and training;
– supply of weapons and equipment;
– participation in joint bilateral and multilateral exercises, military training events.

Cooperation will also be carried out in such areas as peacekeeping, improving the bilateral regulatory framework, culture and sports.

The parties agreed to hold headquarters negotiations and consultations on regional security and joint use of troops, conferences, seminars, symposia. Calls of warships and joint combat training are envisaged. The text emphasizes that the Treaty is not directed against any other states.
