EU Ambassador to Ukraine Matti Maasikas said that judicial reform is the most important factor in the economic development of Ukraine and one of its main steps on the way to the European Union.
“The judicial system is something that has not been reformed in Ukraine in all 30 years of its independence. It is no longer corruption, but the judicial system is the first factor that scares off potential investors and makes them doubt whether to invest money in Ukraine”, – the diplomat said during negotiations with representatives of the community in the Eastern Partnership countries.
He also noted that international partners provided Kiev with support in the reform process. Maasikas stressed that the EU “shared with the authorities and the public of Ukraine a roadmap containing steps that need to be taken, from our point of view, for the correct reform of the judicial system”.
