Merkel’s party ratings slide to historic low

The Conservative bloc has posted its worst popularity figures in years

The Christian Democratic and Christian Social Union alliance was formed after World War II in West Germany. It is now the ruling party in Germany, but its ratings have fallen to 23% for the first time in decades. The Kantar Institute for Public Opinion Research cites relevant data from a poll. The bloc lost another percentage point in just one week.

The worst figures for Angela Merkel’s party were recorded five months before the parliamentary elections. The bloc lost the lead to the Union 90/The Greens with 26 percent support.

The Social Democrats won 16% of the vote, coming in third place. The Free Democratic Party (12%) and the right-wing populist Alternative for Germany (10%) followed.
