Homeless people occupy famous beach in Los Angeles

Venice Beach, which is one of the most recognizable places in Los Angeles, has become a haven for homeless people

The number of homeless people on the streets of Los Angeles continues to increase rapidly. According to public sources, there are more than 70,000 homeless people in the city. In particular, many of them have found shelter on the main boulevard of the legendary Venice Beach Encore.

Locals regularly report fights, stabbings and shootings in this part of town. According to the city’s police department, robberies and assaults in the area have almost tripled in the past year.

“Local children refuse to go to the beach because they are scared. Elderly people who live near the promenade are afraid to walk in their own neighbourhood”, –  said an open letter sent by area residents to the city authorities.

The situation is similar in many major cities in California. Because of the restrictions caused by the coronavirus pandemic, many people have lost their jobs and find themselves unable to rent housing, the price of which is quite high. According to experts, California is rapidly losing its former attractiveness and may turn from the Golden State into a ghetto state.
