The head of Pfizer clarified that he had been in touch with the authorities of many middle and low-income countries to persuade them to reserve doses of the vaccine as supply was limited. However, they decided, he said, to place orders with other manufacturers of COVID-19 drugs
The chief executive officer of US company Pfizer, which has developed the Comirnaty coronavirus vaccine with its German partner BioNTech, Albert Burla, said that low- and middle-income countries had chosen not to order their drug. This was reported by Bloomberg on Friday, citing Burla’s letter to company staff, published after the US announced its support for the cancellation of patents on coronavirus vaccines.
“We have asked all countries to place orders so that we can allocate doses for them”, – Burla wrote, – “In fact, high-income states have reserved most of the doses.”
Meanwhile, the Pfizer chief specified that he had been in touch with authorities in many middle and low income countries to persuade them to reserve doses of the vaccine as supply was limited. However, they decided, according to Burla, to place orders with other manufacturers of COVID-19 drugs.
