Belarus has prepared response measures against the West in case it adopts a new package of sanctions against the Belarusian state. Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei told reporters on Friday.

“Such measures have been previously discussed and prepared. They will be adequate to the situation. No steps by our opponents from the European or Western countries will go unanswered. These measures are really worked out now, we will wait for the situation to develop, and what decisions our partners in the West will come to”, –  the foreign minister said.

He also noted that possible Minsk sanctions against the European business in Belarus will not harm the economy of the country. “They will be both symmetric and asymmetric sanctions, which implies possible measures against European business in Belarus. Many people lament on the Internet that the Belarusian leadership, when deciding on the reciprocal measures under these sanctions, is allegedly shooting itself in the foot. Nobody is going to shoot themselves in the foot, or in the head, or in the heart. We are carefully calculating all options and will not allow our measures to affect the economic development of the country and the well-being of ordinary citizens,” said the head of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry.
