Militants kill journalist in southern Afghanistan

Journalist Nimat Ravan, formerly a TV presenter, was killed in the city of Kandahar.

According to the Associated Press, the incident took place on Thursday, May 6 at noon. The attack was carried out by two militants who managed to escape with the victim’s mobile phone.

Following the killing, security officials informed other journalists in the area of ​​the threat of attack, provincial spokesman Bahir Ahmadi said.

Nimat Ravan is a former presenter of the well-known local channel ToloNews, as well as a spokesman for the Afghan Ministry of Finance. Although the terrorists did not initially take responsibility for the crime, the Taliban* later threatened journalists who were too close to Washington-backed structures. A spokesman for the Zabihullah Mujahid group warned media workers against publishing “one-sided news in support of Afghan intelligence”.
