Journalist Nimat Ravan, formerly a TV presenter, was killed in the city of Kandahar.
According to the Associated Press, the incident took place on Thursday, May 6 at noon. The attack was carried out by two militants who managed to escape with the victim’s mobile phone.
Following the killing, security officials informed other journalists in the area of the threat of attack, provincial spokesman Bahir Ahmadi said.
Nimat Ravan is a former presenter of the well-known local channel ToloNews, as well as a spokesman for the Afghan Ministry of Finance. Although the terrorists did not initially take responsibility for the crime, the Taliban* later threatened journalists who were too close to Washington-backed structures. A spokesman for the Zabihullah Mujahid group warned media workers against publishing “one-sided news in support of Afghan intelligence”.
