Russian politicians and experts spoke about the statement of the President of Ukraine, who called the conflict in Donbass and the reunification of Crimea with Russia “a war in Europe”.
State Duma deputy Artem Turov in a commentary on Duma TV blamed the West for unleashing the battles.
“Those events in Ukraine were supported by Europe, supporting the coup d’etat and the arrival of illegal government, which led to a series of protests in the southeast”, – he said.
The deputy recalled the bloody conflict in Donbass and the events of May 2, 2014 in Odessa, and the violation of freedom of speech in Ukraine.
“Zelensky should be called to account, first of all, figures, including those countries with which he is talking today, seeking support”, – the parliamentarian continued.
Turov stressed that the West does not need a strong Ukraine, as it is an instrument to contain Russia.
“For us, the Ukrainian people have been and remain fraternal, and the Russian Federation did not plan any aggression, we only defend our interests and protect our citizens”, – he summed up.
The head of the department of the Institute of CIS Countries, military expert Vladimir Yevseev on the air of Sputnik radio called Ukraine the main destabilizer in the region.
He stressed that the Baltic countries and Poland are only part of Europe, and the reunification of Crimea with Russia does not affect security on the continent if NATO countries do not engage in provocations.
“The main provocateur of the exacerbation of the situation in Donbass is the Ukrainian side. It was she who increased the military presence”, – Yevseev added.
In his opinion, the Kiev authorities have become dependent on Washington.
In the West, there are often statements about the “Russian threat” that are not supported by evidence. Moscow indicated that the country is not going to attack anyone, while NATO is using speculation as an excuse to place more military equipment near Russian borders. According to Vladimir Putin, accusations of aggression against Moscow are “an invention of those who want to profit from their role as a vanguard in the fight against Russia, to receive some bonuses and preferences for this”.
